EXCERPTS FROM SOME NEWSPAPERS:

1. Art beat, the Indian post, June21, 1989, by Amarendra Nandu Dhaneshwar :-

“The Belabahar certainly gives a better tonal effect than both violin & sarangi.. When Babulal played the instrument to me, I was struck by its resonance and its suitability for playing Hindustani Music. The Artist says, “The violin has four strings; I have added one more string here. This fifth string enables the player to explore the lower octave”.
Babulal gave his first solo performance on the Belabahar for the Sur Singar Sawmi Haridas sammelan in 1982. “I can tune it in 15 seconds as I have fixed a fine tuning box at the top of the instrument making it suitable for commercial recordings.” It gas been substituted for most verities of bowing instrument like; dilruba, tar-shehnai, ravanhatta, violin, sarangi etc.”

2. The times of India, November 5, 1992, by Batuk Dewanji :-

“The artist displayed a phenomenal command over his instrument and his bowing technique was perfect. He possesses a keen aesthetic sense and his resonant tans were clear cut and moved in all the three saptaks effortlessly, reminiscent of his mentor Pt. Ram Narayan”.

3. The Independent, February6, 1991, Nandu Dhaneshwar :-
Babulal’s allaaps in Bihag was evocative. He cleverly exploited the tonal melody of “Belabahar” to lend his allaap greater effectiveness. The purity of the raag endeared him to the most discerning listeners.”

4. Ngage, January17, 2005, Mumbai, Archit Revandkar :-
